Rainbow Pearl (Kannon Bosatsu – Compassion and Universal Blessings)

The Rainbow Pearl represents the boundless compassion and blessings of Kannon Bosatsu, known as Avalokiteshvara in Sanskrit, the Bodhisattva of Compassion. This sacred pearl holds the energy of universal love and kindness, reaching out to alleviate the suffering of all sentient beings. Kannon Bosatsu’s ability to embody infinite compassion is reflected in the radiance of the Rainbow Pearl, which symbolizes the light of mercy extending to every corner of the universe.

Karana Mudra (Gesture of Expelling Evil)

To activate the power of the Rainbow Pearl, one begins with the Karana Mudra, the gesture of expelling evil and removing obstacles. This mudra is performed by raising the right hand with the palm facing outward, extending the index and little fingers while curling the other fingers into the palm. This gesture helps dispel negative energies and clears the way for the light of compassion to flow freely.

Shingon Practice of Kannon Bosatsu

As you hold the Karana Mudra, chant the sacred Shingon mantra of Kannon Bosatsu:

“On Aro Rikya Sowaka”

This powerful mantra invokes the blessings of Kannon Bosatsu, calling forth divine compassion to heal suffering and protect from harm.

Steps in the Practice:

  1. Find a Quiet Space: Sit comfortably in a quiet space where you can focus. Hold your hands in the Karana Mudra.
  2. Set an Intention: Before beginning, set a compassionate intention for yourself and others. Visualize the radiant light of the Rainbow Pearl.
  3. Chant the Mantra: Slowly and with deep reverence, chant the mantra “On Aro Rikya Sowaka” eight times. As you chant, imagine the Rainbow Pearl glowing at your heart, expanding its rainbow-colored light outward.
  4. Visualize Compassion: See the radiant light of the Rainbow Pearl reaching out to all beings, dissolving their suffering and filling their hearts with peace and compassion. Imagine the world being enveloped in this light of love and kindness.
  5. Feel the Blessings: As you continue the practice, feel the universal blessings flow through you, connecting you with all beings and the boundless compassion of Kannon Bosatsu.
  6. Close the Practice: End the meditation by placing your hands in a gesture of gratitude (Anjali Mudra) and dedicating the merits of your practice to the well-being of all.

The Rainbow Pearl is a symbol of transformative compassion, and through this practice, you align yourself with Kannon Bosatsu’s infinite love, offering healing and blessings to yourself and others.
